MAC BirdHouse: Greg Greenway - Oct. 9
A rare combination of instrumental expertise, a soulful and moving singer, powerful poet, and sparkling entertainer, Greenway is one of those difficult-to-categorize performers who has found a home in the modern acoustic genre. Musically, he draws inspiration from all over the map - Gospel, rock, blues, jazz, and world music. But his center is the singer/songwriter tradition that traces its roots all the way back to the social awareness of Woody Guthrie.

Speech and Debate performed at Nichols Theatre - Oct. 15 - Oct. 17
Salem is in for another witch hunt when a scandal involving a teacher shakes the halls of a small Oregon high school, linking three students. Having never met previously, misfits Solomon, Diwata and Howie decide to form a speech and debate team. Their search for the truth and journey to be heard uncovers secrets and connects them in unlikely ways. Playwright Stephen Karam also incorporates music into this new telling, dark comedy.“A triumph…hilarious, cliché-free, and immensely entertaining … The play’s real accomplishment is its picture of the borderland between late adolescence and adulthood...we never feel we’re being educated, just immensely entertained.” — The New York Times

McCain: Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles - Oct. 18
Experience what Beatlemania was all about! From Ed Sullivan to Abbey Road! They look like them and they sound just like them! “The next best thing to seeing The Beatles,” raves the Denver Post. All the music and vocals are performed totally live! RAIN covers the Fab Four from the earliest beginnings through the psychedelic late ’60s and their long-haired hippie, hard-rocking rooftop days.RAIN is a multimedia, multi-dimensional experience - a fusion of historical footage and hilarious television commercials from the 1960s lights up video screens and live cameras zoom in for close-ups.
“Uncanny! RAIN is a quartet of fine musicians in their own right . . . as The Beatles, they triumph!” cheers the Boston Herald. Sing along with your family and friends to such Beatlemaniac favorites as “Let It Be,” “Hey Jude,” “My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Come Together,” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
Recommended for the entire family!

McCain: Tap Dogs - Oct. 27
The high-octane international Broadway sensation – TAP DOGS – is back and ready to leave dents on the McCain Auditorium stage! See sparks fly as six brawny blokes in faded jeans, flannel shirts, and Australian work-boots perform virtuosic feats of extreme tap dancing with astonishing stamina on industrial size metal sets evoking the spirit of the steel towns north of Sydney.
Featuring raw pulsating choreography, innovative sets, and a driving score, Barry Davis - Commentator for the Sydney Olympic Games proclaimed that TAP DOGS is “part theatre, part rock concert, and part construction site.” How cool is that?

Northern Flint Hills Audubon Society Presents Our October Program: Konza Prairie: Breeding Place for - Oct. 21
"Konza Prairie: Breeding Place for
Upland Sandpipers & Common Nighthawks"
Presented by Jorge Mendoza, K-State.The Upland Sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda) is a species that use Konza Prairie as breeding grounds every summer. The objective of my study was to examine the parental roles of Upland Sandpipers during brood rearing and survival of young. Another species with limited studies is the Common Nighthawk (Chordeiles minor). Our results showed that radio telemetry can be successful with nighthawks and it could be useful to monitor their activity in order to investigate questions regarding their mating system and breeding. Finding more about their natural history may aid in the conservation of Common Nighthawks in urban areas.
